It is only necessary to see part of this quilt. Trust me. There are just many more blocks, just like this, framed between scrunched and puckered sashing strips. What is truly amazing about this quilt is that the large “panel” of hideous fabric is not a single patch of fabric at all, but actually a PIECED BLOCK. The pattern is too difficult to decipher, as it is just too painful to look at in such detail for as long a time as would be required to identify the block.
Each block is made up of over 60 separate patches from two repugnant novelty prints. While it just LOOKS like one bad fabric choice, it is really TWO bad fabric choices, magnified, compounded, and enlarged by the fact that there is no contrast whatsoever when they are placed one next to the other. All that work for something that should have never gotten beyond the “sample block” stage. The judges were overjoyed with this entry. Truly memorable. Luckily the memory fades slightly with a strong analgesic.
