Warning: this is an OLD newsletter. Time marches on; things change. Information may be outdated, irrelevant, misleading or incorrect. (That means links may not work either. Unless it sends you to a porno site I won't fix it so don't tell me.) To get on the list to receive the next current newsletter, just e-mail me. It's free! What are you waiting for?
(AOL Hyperlinks are at the bottom of this newsletter.) Thanks for clicking!
They say a picture is worth 1000 words. In this case it's 2,000. That's the number of quilts made and donated to the NY Firefighters and Police for distribution. You will not believe the pictures. Go immediately to http://www.littlequilts.com
to see what 2,000 looks like. There is also an article about this project in the current issue of American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine. Kudos to Alice Berg, Sylvia Johnson, and Mary Ellen Von Holt of Little Quilts (quilt shop and pattern company) in Marietta, GA for a supreme effort.
OTHER AWESOME WEB SITE
Kathy Kansier shared this incredible website with me and if you're in the mood for a high-tech, jaw-dropping tour of the White House, you've got to see this. Go to
for a 360 degree virtual tour of the Christmas decorations at the White House. Click on the little round-ish symbol that pops up after the video loads. Click on the little arrows to navigate. You can go left, right, UP, and DOWN. Don't ask me how they did that!
Some re-arranging at has been going on during the last week or so. For example, Daisy's story has been moved as en entry in a new page called AMI'S ADVENTURES. I finally put up the PANAMA adventure again, and now DAISY's story is there also. I have several more adventures that were on my OLD page to move over, but hey, it's been a year, why hurry now?!
I took the stories behind the pictures that appear on the top page of my site and split them into two categories: WHAT'S UP WITH AMI () and TIPS & TRICKS (). Click on the navigation bar to see what those are all about if you don't want to click through the newsletter. (See if you can find LaVonne Hanlon's banana hanger/thread lifter.)
WHAT WERE THEY T H I N K I N G?!
This is a new page. It's pretty empty right now, so I'm counting on you to fill it right up with pictures, stories, and other fun stuff! Remember the sign I saw that said "Indoor Yard Sale." That's what got me going on that. Help me out at
New STASH photos are up. You will be delighted with Peggy G's at . At least she's got a walking path through it. I looked at it and just said, "OhMyGosh"
New products include the Comfort And Joy quilt pattern and kit (), and the Red Brigade Kit (), and three awesome patterns from Jan Mullen to tempt your quiltmaking fancy. () and easy listening piano CDs recorded by a fellow quilter.
Many items are on sale until the end of the year. That's coming right up. Don't be left out!
LAST MINUTE CHRISTMAS GIFTS YOU CAN USE TO EAT WITH WHILE QUILTING
Just when I thought I'd heard it all, I saw the ultimate - a popcorn fork! Thanks to Pam B. for sending me my very own popcorn fork to munch with as I stitch and maintain clean fingers all the while. True, not as good as the pneumatic popcorn shooter because I have to actually stop quilting to indulge, but there's no chance of the tasty kernels winding up in my ear either.
Invented by Don Sothman, a delightful nut from Wisconsin (and I mean that in the nicest way) these babies are practical AND fun. What else would you call his latest Popcorn Fun-Doo(tm) bowl? His "dip-dunker-bowl" features a place for popcorn, 8 sauces for dipping, and 8 popcorn forks.
Used like a pencil, these dishwasher safe popcorn forks even have their own built-in salt-shakers in the handle. They come in bright colors and can be imprinted.
Don says, "The "Popcorn ForkTM" will be the 4th commonly used eating utensil in the home (especially when the dishwasher hasn't been emptied.)" You can watch him eating with his patented popcorn fork at .
BUT WAIT! There's MORE! You can WIN your very own Popcorn Fun-Doo(tm) with popcorn, dipping sauces and forks staring right now at ! The winner will be selected some time in mid-January, so if you're thinking "holiday gift giving at it's wackiest" then you better call 1-888-931-2207 fast.
LAST MINUTE CHRISTMAS GIFTS EVERYONE WILL LIKE
My friend, Jenny Booth, has come out with her third CD of solo piano music. It's called Simple Gifts and it's so beautifully done. These are songs you know like Shenandoah, Amazing Grace, Londonderry Air, and of course the title song, Simple gifts. (Plus two original songs called This New Day.)
We have limited copies of Jenny's SIMPLE GIFTS CD and also her SEASON OF HOPE and CHRISTMAS PEACE but we will priority mail them to you lickity split. They're only $9.95 and of that, $2.00 will be donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Don't miss this opportunity to help a budding new artist and to help this worthwhile charity. You won't be disappointed. Visit to order.
HOW DOES A SEWING MACHINE WORK?
This is a cool website. Sound like somebody's college final, but you'll find the pictures interesting. Always wondered what happens with that bobbin thread when I sew. Check it out at
Thanks to Ann for this URL.
UNUSUAL WEB PAGE
Jolee M. told me about this web page, where you can check out the Ocala, Florida horses. Fifty CERAMIC horses have been painted by local artists and displayed throughout the city. Very cool. Reminds me of the Houston "CowParade" cows Kathy K. told me. Check out . Amazing!
TMLucero reminds us that the best protection against viruses is to disable "file download" in the Internet tools area. When you get at attached file from a person you KNOW and you know WHY they sent it to you, then you can enable "file download" to grab THAT file only. Then disable it when you're through. And, make sure you have a good anti-virus software like Norton or McAfee and keep it up to date. Thanks, TM!
You've all seen that wonderful greeting card about somebody's Grandma who walks 2 miles every day. You open the card and it says something like: Yeah, we don't know where the heck she is now. (OK, so I told it wrong, but you get the idea.)
I've got a friend named Carol. We met back in my racewalking days. She always remembers my birthday, sends me post cards from her winter home to let me know what she's up to, and all without guilt. This is amazing as I can never remember to send anyone birthday cards and I don't send her post cards either.
Carol almost always tells me she's still walking, but in her last correspondence she mentioned that, yes, she's still walking, and.....get this: she's walked over 980 miles this year! Her goal is 1000 miles for 2001!
So, when you read this, would you stand up, walk 10 steps and dedicate them to Carol? Sort of like all of us cheering her on at the finish line. Amazing, isn't it? (I'm going to go walk to the fridge and grab something to eat now.) Hugs, Carol!

LEADER DOG & OTHER AUCTIONS
The Leader Dogs For the Blind auction was held last month and I am thrilled to report that the first 8 quilts made by the readers of this newsletter were auctioned off and $1070 was raised. Please see the winning quilts at their new location under QUILTS. Then click CHARITY QUILTS. Or click .
Come January I plan to auction some of the quilts on eBay.com but meanwhile I am testing the waters with stuff from the basement. Don't ask; just bid.
As of this very moment, that's how many pairs of eyes are reading this newsletter. Yipeee! Thanks for reading and for passing it along to your friends. And, thanks to your loyalty, www.MalleryPress.com has gotten 800,000 hits since it "opened" in February. The most popular page EVER? Hands down it's the one with the photo of Carol's stash! . The picture of fabric in the fridge was viewed over 47,000 times in the last 10 days!
Have the very best holidays this year and a healthy, happy, and "quilty" new year. Thank you again for being such loyal readers and consider yourself HUGGED. Now, go pass it on.
