This is a cobblestone mosaic in the middle of an intersection in Edinburgh, Scotland, taken during our trip there in 1998. I can't remember the name of the street. It was a block or two from Princes Street. There was a mosaic in each of the intersections/cross streets. Don't know how many streets are like this, but you've got to love the artistic impulse. (Yes, I stood in the middle of the road to take the picture but as there wasn't much traffic, most everyone walks in Edinburg, I wasn't in much danger.) They remind me of the Colonial or Folk Art applique. I call this The Roadway Trapunto Applique.
