The Ami Simms Newsletter
July 1, 2011
Yes, we have a new member of the Simms family. He's a rescue dog from Golden Retriever Rescue of Michigan and he joined us in his Forever Home on Saturday, June 18th. He has already begun blogging.
ALZHEIMER'S ART QUILT INITIATIVE UPDATE
The auction quilts are up and ready for your bidding pleasure. Please bid generously.
In other news, the AAQI received a check from Island Batik for $25,000; awarded $60,000 to continue the work previously funded at University of Michigan; introduced the Quilt Shop Drop-Off program; and issued challenges for the ongoing Quilt-A-Month Club.
Please consider supporting the AAQI. There are 33 painless ways
you can help find a cure for a horrendous disease, and lots of them don't even involve opening up your wallet.
THE CLASSY AWARDS
The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative is competing for part of $150,000 in three of the 12 categories offered for outstanding nonprofits in something called the Classy Awards. We have already met the minimum standard of 100 "likes" in all three of our categories.
The judges will then select the top 300 nominees and online voting determines the rest. Seems to me the more "likes" we get and the more positive comments we get, the better we'll fare with the judges.
The last day to add "likes" and comments is Friday, July 8th at 11:59pm eastern.
Like and comment 3 times and you're done. ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Had a wonderful time with the Common Threads Quilt Guild in Columbus, OH this last week. Next I'm gearing up for workshops and a lecture with the Shawnee Quilters of Southern Illinois in mid-July and my first visit to Louisiana in August. I'll be teaching a session of Twisted Sisters for the Quilter's Guild Acadienne in Lafayette. Contact information for these two guilds are on my teaching schedule

POPULAR QUILTING TOOL BACK IN STOCK
We just got our backorder in for the Magnetic Pin & Scissor Grabber
. This is just too handy. Yank a pin out before you drive over it, fling it at the Magnetic Pin & Scissor Grabber suctioned-cupped to the face of your machine and "click!" It sticks!
How did I ever live without this?!
Keep one on the front of your machine for pins, and stick one on the side of your machine for your thread snippers so you can keep track of them. Safe for computerized sewing machines, too!
Steve says if he thought it would stick to my forehead he'd make me wear one for my car keys. Just can't keep track of those....
