This is the floor of a classroom, believe it or not. I found it in a school
museum in the city of Leipzig in Germany. It is a replica of a similar floor
in the original Jewish high school which was destroyed by the Nazis. After
the wall came down (formerly West) German students formed these tiles from
clay, glazed and fired them and then gave them as a gift to this (formerly
East) German museum.
Of course, the pattern is "Davidīs star" and the white and blue ornaments
are hand painted. I thought you and patchworkers might love them for their
style but also for the thoughts of peace, reunification and reconciliation
that were put into this floor and are obvious to modern day visitors.
Best regards from Martina in Germany
