My mother, Barbara Leyden< crafted the engagement quilt pictured here for my fiancé and I. We met in May 1994, when I was working at a small college in Iowa. He was a free-lance photographer, then employed in Kentucky., who had been contracted to do a shoot at our campus in order to complete our new brochure design. I was his campus liaison, and after our two days together, we said goodbye and exchanged business cards, promising to stay in touch.
We sent letters and e-mail for two years, and in 1998, and he asked me to marry him. My mother saw the engagement coming (and waited anxiously for several years until he actually proposed). She started on the quilt in 1998, copying assorted photos of us as children, young adults, and as a couple. She patched them all together in this wonderful memory quilt that will be the centerpiece at our reception.
My mother has a talent for finding special ways to honor her family and friends. I am thrilled to have this lasting memory she has crafted for us.
