It’s not often seersucker, satin, and doubleknit make their way into a quilt. Thank goodness! It’s also surprising that out of 864 patchwork squares, not a single one of them is square. Entrant #072-555 of Tucson, AZ made her wedding quilt in 1976 from a magazine picture (she claims there were no instructions) and cardboard templates that wore down during the tracing process. Even so, the tattered turquoise blanket binding and “in-the-ditch” zig-zag quilting stitches were what really got the judges’ attention.
