Newcomb's Twist

Newcomb's Twist
Mary Louise Newcomb, a student in my Twisted Sisters workshop at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Williamsburg in February 2002, made her blocks from two different wedges. Wedge #1 was made using a dark green "background" and a lighter blue print "twist." Wedge #2 was made of a light green "background" and a violet "twist." (See the block inset.) block centers were dark purple. Click HERE to see her quilt.

All the blocks are the same, but in the setting every other one is rotated 90. The dark green backgrounds form a strong secondary design and the light green backgrounds form yet another design. The block centers blend with the dark green backgrounds and seem to form a visual path through the quilt. What a great idea!

Her border is the same as in quilt #8 shown in the Twisted Sisters pattern.
