Warm, dry, and electrified thoughts go out to all those in Ike's wake. I hope things will be back to normal very soon if they aren't already.
DID YOU MISS ME?
If you don't read my blog you missed stories about a very special raffle quilt, pears & bean soup, the Trinity Valley Quilt Challenge, bowling (with fabric and clothesline), the Virtual Quilt Patch challenge, World Alzheimer's Day, my ineptitude with Excel, a way to use up those silly leftover pieces after you rotary cut your Twisted Sisters "wedges," Madison's Indiana adventure, a cool quilting aid, and Madison's bath. Hard to believe you actually made it through September without them.
Want to get in on the fun and get an "Ami story" in your email box every couple of days? It's the only place you can read stories from Under The Desk! (Woof! Woof!) Plus, I blog about quilting news, tips, silly things, and random thoughts. And, it's free! Subscribe
to my blog.

HOUSTON QUILT FESTIVAL
The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative will have a booth again at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, October 30-November 2. Find the Silver Star Salute quilts and we're right behind them: 5726, 5728, and 5730.
Our hope is to bring 1,000 quilts to sell! All profit goes to Alzheimer's research. We really want to see you there. Stop by our booth and get a purple patch to wear during Quilt Festival. On it you can write the name of a person who has/had Alzheimer's to help raise awareness at the show. Don't know anybody? We have some patches with names already on them.
You can also show your support by wearing AAQI gear
to the show. Check out the new designs to spiff up your wardrobe at CafePress.com. Each item you purchase earns money for the AAQI and Alzheimer's research.
If you've got any Priority: Alzheimer's Quilts to finish, have at it. I could use them in Houston so I need them ASAP. Finish them FIRST, then register them, then you'll get instructions on where to send them. Start here
The bid buttons are up for some extraordinary quilts. Please take a look!
AMI ON FOX NEWS
It's not often, and by that I mean hardly ever, that I can invite you to watch me on TV
. (If you look very closely, you can see Madison's tail too.)

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
For the month of October, this means that YOU travel and I get to stay home. The last workshop of 2008 will be this Saturday (October 4th) right here in Flint, Michigan. There are still a few openings left. We're going to be playing with Susan Breier's "It's A Wrap" technique and all you have to bring is the fabric and your machine. You can get the rest of the supplies at the workshop. Sign up here
In November I'll be visiting the Capital City Quilters in Raleigh, NC. I'll be presenting "Living With Quilts: A Survival Guide" in the evening on November 22nd and "How To Improve Your Quilting Stitch" and "A New Way to Piece: Applique" on November 21 and 22. For more information email Roberta at firstname.lastname@example.org
Have a chuckle or three. The "What Where They Thinking
" page is updated with two new photographs of odd street signs.
Never heard of him. But my friend Becky Goldsmith wants to win a ukulele that he signed and she's buying $1 raffle tickets to get it. I want you to win it right out from under her. Because the money from the raffle supports breast cancer research and in the long run if they got more money and somebody else got the ukulele, Becky would probably be happier. So, if you win, I'll give you her number and you call her up and strum a few bars of something. Check it out!
We lost a quilting icon this past month. Helen Kelley, who came into most of our homes every month for the past 25 years via her quilt stories published in Quilters Newsletter Magazine, passed away on September 1st. She will be missed.

SHARING THIS NEWSLETTER
Please do. Forward the ENTIRE thing to all your friends and even some of your enemies. Everybody enjoys a laugh or two. Please do NOT forward just part of it. Somehow my name gets dropped off when these things float through cyberspace and since I’m writing them for free, I should at least get credit for writing them. If you write a guild newsletter (real paper or online) and would like to “reprint” a particular part of the newsletter you must ask first. Here’s how
UNTIL NEXT TIME
Be good to each other and have a great quilting day! (Or several!)
