The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative Presents

"Alzheimer's:
Forgetting Piece by Piece"

   An exhibit of invitational and juried quilts curated by Ami Simms for the purpose of raising awareness and funding research. All proceeds will be donated to Alzheimer's research. Quilts will tour throughout the United States for a period of three years at major quilting events, museums, quilt guild exhibitions, and other public venues.

Prospectus

Eligibility
Any aspect of Alzheimer's disease rendered in quilt form (three layers, stitched) will be considered. Inclusion in the exhibit will be determined by visual impact, relevance to theme, structural integrity, suitability as part of a cohesive visual statement, and conformity to eligibility requirements. Work must be original, submitted by the maker, and in pristine condition. Quilts must measure between 30" and 38" in width, and between 30" to 60" in length. They must be sleeved across the top and bottom (with 4"-6" openings). Quilts will be rolled and stacked in shipping totes with other quilts. Any quilts that look like they might damage other quilts will not be accepted. Submissions not accurately represented will be rejected. The curator reserves the right to withdraw any quilt from exhibition at any time.

Timeline
  • Submission deadline is June 5, 2006.
  • Acceptance/rejection will be by email, on or before June 12, 2006.
  • Accepted quilts must be shipped to arrive by July 1, 2006.
  • Quilts must be available for photography and exhibit from July 1, 2006 - July 31, 2009 without exception.
Shipping
Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from Mallery Press. Stitch a cloth label that includes your name, the title of the work, your permanent address, email, phone number, and title of the exhibit, to the back of the quilt in the lower right hand corner. Accepted quilts must arrive at Mallery Press, Inc./4206 Sheraton Drive/Flint, MI 48532-3557 USA no later than Saturday, July 1, 2006. (Original packing materials will NOT be saved. Please, no Styrofoam peanuts.)

Insurance
Mallery Press will maintain an insurance policy against loss or damage and will reimburse the owner of the quilt for loss or damage up to the amount of the owner's valuation but not more. In the event of damage or loss, the insurer may insist upon a certified appraisal or copies of sales receipts of similar quilts to establish the value of the quilt otherwise reimbursement will be limited to cost of materials only. "Damage" does not include normal wear from a three-year exhibition schedule.

Photography & Fundraising
All accepted quilts will be photographed. All photographs will become the property of Mallery Press. The artist grants exclusive rights to Mallery Press to use these images for publicity, promotion, and/or fundraising without compensation.

Submission Process
Submission deadline: June 5, 2006. This includes:
  • Non-refundable $15 Submission Fee per quilt, paid below.
  • Email submission (below) that includes:
    • Two attached JPEGs, one showing entire quilt front, the other showing a detail. (Set camera to 1600 x 1200 resolution or higher.) Name images YourNameFRONT.jpg and YourNameDETAIL.jpg
    • One attached scanned image (200 dpi resolution) of portion of quilt, named YourNameSCAN.jpg
    • An attached Artist's Statement (Microsoft Word document named YourName.doc).
  • To complete submission:
    • Highlight and copy the information below (control + C).
