"Through The Years"

Ami ... You probably get lots of pictures of finished products, but I was SO pleased with the way this one turned out (as were the recipients, the boy-next-door and his new bride) that I thought I'd share it with you.

The pictures were culled from their family stashes, with a little help from both Moms, and all without the couple's knowledge. The finished quilt was hanging behind their table the night of their wedding rehearsal dinner.

My photo doesn't probably show it well, but the poem that was embroidered in the diagonal blocks reads:

"We are not given life all in one piece
It's more like a patchwork quilt -
Each hour and minute's a piece to fit in
To the pattern of life being built.

Some patches are light and some pieces grey
Some pieces might even seem strange ...
If we had to choose, though, to set some apart
We'd hardly know which ones to change.

For it takes the bright patches to set off the grey
And the dark ones to show up the light.
If we were to take any pieces away
The pattern just wouldn't seem right.

No, life isn't given us all in one piece
But in patches of moments to use
So we each can work out our own pattern of life
To whatever design we might choose."

(I wish I could take full credit for that one, but I adapted it from a poem I saw on a quilt several years ago at a show, and sadly, the author was not identified.)

Now the next wedding is on the horizon, so I've just ordered MORE Photos-to-Fabric® transfer Paper ... I'm thinking this has started a tradition!
